Thank you all - this has been enormously helpful. I wasn't holding out hope for more with him, but would like a friendship eventually - but you've all helped me realize why that can't happen now. Maybe in time, if we're still willing, and after he has had time to win his new gf's trust - or maybe not. But I'm moving on with my life regardless.

Thank heaven for such an amazing collection of wise and supportive women! :-)

Friendship after dating?? Drama-queen new girlfriend?? Please help me understand ....

I started seeing a wonderful new guy a few months ago. Things were starting to get serious (or so I thought) - then a month ago he told me that he had met another woman at about the same time as he'd met me, and that after a lot of painful soul-searching he had decided that he wanted to pursue her instead. I was understandably devastated, but he was very supportive, and in the past month he and I have continued to email, and it's been a tremendous help to me in getting over it. more

Online dating question - first date

    Hi all,

First off, thanks to everyone here for your wonderful and insightful feedback - I've been reading through the message boards for a while and find them very inspiring, and have recognized my own patterns in many of them!

I've just ventured back into the online world yet again ... and wanted to ask for suggestions on how to reply to a vague request for a first date. This guy and I have exchanged a couple of emails on a dating site, and the last one I received today ended with:

"Where do you like to meet new acquaintences for coffee?" more

Thanks TCG - I guess I felt a bit responsible since I initiated the playful innuendo - I realize that my intention was misunderstood, and now I'm trying to figure out how to pull back graciously and leave room for things to develop (if they're meant to), without making it sound like *he's* entirely responsible - I have so far allowed this to get physical (and enjoyed it), but saw it as part of something bigger; I'd like to do what I reasonably can to give him time & space to get to know...  more

How do I set boundaries and still keep things drama-free?‏

Mon Nov 16 2009 - 08:58 pm Posted in Dating

I've met a great new man, and need some advice on a tricky situation: we haven't been dating long, but things have progressed quite quickly to the point where we've been intimate twice. Both times it's been preceded by a lovely date and quality time together, which I've been ok with. more
