don't kid yourself into thinking facebook is 'private'. It's anything BUT private.
Even Zukerbberg (the founder) is not protected completely.
With the recent changes in privacy settings that he was touting, his profile photos suddenly became public due to a glitch in the system. They fixed it when they realised it but not before his very private photos leaked into the media.

as you say,he needs time to sort out his shizzle :) and you need to give him that time and space..
one last email to ask for no contact (to keep it respectful and acknowledge the feelings he wrote out in this email to you -- i'm sure it hurts him but it's his decision and he has to face it, and it's not fair to keep you in limbo). then no contact. don't respond after that to emails that he sends.
