My first bad date experience

He seemed like a decent guy. We had good conversation. He did ask a lot of questions about "dating" and "relationships" that made me feel a little uneasy. Like he was trying to figure out exactly how I felt so he could decide whether it was worth it to ask me out again. But I didn't really mind. I thought my answers were really articulate. Then we split the bill, which I am not used to doing. I paid with a credit card and he paid with cash. He told me he would cover the tip, because the cash he laid down made it so I was paying for a little bit more of the bill then he was. So, I thought, at least he's covering the tip. THEN he left two dollars on a thirty dollar dinner! At this point I felt horrified. I wish that I had handled this differently. But I decided right then and there that I would go back and tip the waitress after we left. I had four dollars in my wallet. I've read about guys writing girls off for doing certain things. And that guys make snap decisions pretty quickly while dating. Well for me, this was my snap decision. I was offended, especially seeing that he had a $20 he could have broken! It's not like he was short on cash. We went outside and I was so ready to go home, but we did that little end of the date ritual chatter. He told me about his trips to Caribbean and how he was going to buy a boat. He had a very nice car. As I sat there realizing he had plenty of money, I got even more pissed off at him!

So I watched him drive off and then returned to the restaurant found the waitress gave her the $4 and said, he told me not to tip you. Don't worry he's not getting a second date. The waitress was so horrified when she saw the tip she was getting after dinner. And when I walked back into that restaurant the whole staff knew who I was and found my waitress without me even needing to ask for her and she came to me. She was so relieved. She was a great waitress. And put up with our two hour long dinner.

Next time I think I'll just tell the guy that bad tippers turn me off.

One more thing. I am so used to dates ending with the feeling of excitement and elation. This was the first time that I did not experience those post date feelings of hope and expectation. It was kind of strange, because I actually felt really stressed out. I ended up meeting up with some friends for a movie, which helped take my mind off the experience that had left a very bad taste in my mouth. At least I don't have to wait around wondering if he'll call me.
