Dating a Medium?

One guy I met online and who I am going out with on Saturday, has just told me that he works part-time as a medium (in addition to his normal job). I was so surprised as he seemed so ordinary (I LIKE ordinary, lol!). It wasn't mentioned on his profile at all and to be honest, I think I would have passed him by. I have to confess, I am a bit of a skeptic, although open-minded.

So, is there anything I need to look out for? What do you think?

Give him a chance. Maybe the reason he didn't put it on his profile was because he didn't want people to stereotype him as weird. He may be perfectly charming.

I think it would be a fasinating topic of conversation. But then, I would probably want him to channel James Dean or Elvis.

Sorry, that wasn't funny.

Go and have fun. However, if he does seem weird go with your gut and don't see him again

Thanks Theta, he IS really very charming and you are right, it will give us loads to talk about. I am hoping he finds Bruce Willis over my shoulder, lol!

Maybe he is afraid that if he did put that on his profile the only people contacting him would be weirdos. Maybe he has experienced that in the past and wants to date people who are normal.

I mean how many reincarnations of Cleapatra and Marilyn Monroe can he go out with before he wants to crawl into a hole?

I would feel very positive about this! It means that he's emotionally open (as a medium has to actively tune into a person's energy). He's probably also an expert at reading body language so he's very likely to know how to do all the nice things a woman likes a man to do on a date.

We all have intuition - mediums have just developed this a lot more than most that's all. Nothing to be unnecessarily scared about, and you need not be concerned he'll be able to read your mind! It doesn't work like that.

Just enjoy the date!

Oh, yes, Theta, I hadn't thought of that - maybe he was a bit relieved when I said I wouldn't visit one, because then it means he won't be expected to perform. Er, in his job anyway, lol!

Oh, yes, Trace, I was scared that he would be able to read my body language too easily, let alone what I was thinking, lol! I hadn't considered the benefits, but of course, you are right!

Oooh, I am really looking forward to it now.

Mediums also face a lot of prejudice in society. Most of it, I have to say, comes from misinformation and lack of knowledge. It probably took some guts on his side to mention his profession to you, but you can also be sure it'll be something that's very important to him. If you haven't much experience of this yourself, try to be open and hold back on giving any opinion one way or another yourself - you can always make the decision yourself later on if his thinking isn't to your liking.

Most mediums I've met are warm and excellent conversationalists. The really great thing about a male medium is you can express your emotional side to him without fear and that is soooo very attractive to a woman - wouldnt you agree?

Thanks Trace, there are some unscrupulous ones out there, so that is what I was nervous about, really. But he sounds like a good guy and is accredited and everything, so I am keeping an open mind.

His observation and conversational ability has come over already and I have even given him my home phone number which I have never done so soon before!

The more I think about the benefits the more reassured I am - thanks so much for pointing them out!

So, the date went very well, he is a very charming person and a proper gentleman which made a real change for me. I am not used to being treated so chivalrously.

He paid for everything (even though I offered).

He let me choose (food and movie).

He asked questions and listend.

He escourted me to my car.

He checked I got home alright.

I got the impression that he was seeing other people, which is OK, because I am (although I didn't say that).

If nothing comes of it, then at least I know what it is really like to go out with a genuinely good guy!

I thanked him loads, he asked me to email him. What do I do now?

Wow, sounds great! I assume he has your number? If so, just wait to see if he contacts you. Waiting will give you an indication if he's keen to take it further. If not, oh well, you had a lovely date.

mediums have a tendency towards unreality and being out of touch with practical matters and being airy fairy and illogical.

I have interests in spiritual pursuits and I've encountered mediums and spiritualists. some people are quite grounded but that's probably the biggest problem is being ungrounded.

or delusional and ego driven (I met one woman like that but she was an exception but still keep on eye out)

he has a job so he may be grounded.

being I'm a capricorn, I'm pretty practical and being ungrounded is almost impossible for me because if I get too out there, I somehow get practical

I am just exhibiting a sarcastic sense of humor so don't take it too seriously, but perhaps you can ask him to see what the future holds for you and him. :) I am not quite sure what a medium does (does it entail speaking to the dead or seeing the future?). Did he discuss this part-time job during the date at all? If you are interested in seeing him, I WOULD NOT e-mail him as he asked. Just wait to for him to call and in the meantime, go on with your life. :)

Thanks FunnyOne, he seems quite grounded, but I do think he may be a bit egotistical and I can't help wondering if he is a bit of a player, I can't think why I am feeling that, but often my gut instincts are spot on. I dunno, am playing it carefully until I am sure.

Hi TCG, LOL at your comment, that would be funny! He speaks with the dead, I gather, although we didn't talk about it at all during the date.

The disappointing thing is, though, that I didn't feel a physical attraction for him at all.

I am glad your date went well. Why do you think he is a player. Did he seem "too good to be true?"

Allow for what I call "latent attraction". Not everyone bowls you over the first date. Is he not your usual type? Thats fine. Sometimes as you get to know a guy, you see things that you missed the first couple of times because you were nervous or didn't know what to expect. Latent attraction can't be forced though. If by the 2nd or 3rd date you ain't feelin' it, then make the call

What is kind of funny is here he is the medium and your suspicious of him LOL Seriously I think everyone deserves a chance but depending on how into it he is, I think I would feel a little uncomfortable with getting into a relationship with someone of that depth. I read tarot cards & into astrology, but thats as far as the door Id want to open, because sometimes it can get just freaky. But I sure would be very intrigued by him and I most definitely would of asked him what he saw in about me.
It could also be he may sense your really not that attracted to him. You know that saying your better off buying a dumb dog then a smart dog? How in the world could u ever be able to keep everything to yourself if he is going to know everything!
I also wonder, does his gift work for him and is that why you think he may be a player because he seems to have a hidden ticket with this insight?
In any case I would be really intrigued with him, but I am not that sure how much time I would want to devote to him. But I guess thats pretty unfair.

Princess, a medium is not necessarily telepathic. A medium is someone who contacts spirits. Nothing to do with being able to read your mind.

Telepathy is the ability to communicate without physical means, ie transferring or receiving thoughts directly without the use of verbal language. We all have this capability.

As women we all especially possess it. It is called women's intuition. Over 90% of all communication is non verbal so we are all telepaths to a degree. This does not mean we automatically know all each others secrets. It doesn't work that way. It just means you are sensitive to what is NOT being said. We all use our telepathy. There is nothing weird or mystical about it.

This guy may be clairvoyant as well, meaning he can sense things that cannot be seen with the senses including being able to predict events. If he is in touch with spirits that makes sense. However, that is nothing to be nervous of either

Just my 2 cents

Thanks everyone, I am definitely open minded about his mediumship, but not about any playership, lol!

Actually, my gut instinct (yeah, that women's intuition), trusted him in that he was a good guy, but I felt he was either trying to impress me with his wide circle of women friends or that he was trying to tell me I was just one of many (without saying it in words). I don't know, can't put my finger on it. He also says he has just got out of a very intense relationship, which for some reason makes me feel edgy too. Maybe I am overthinking things.

I am not too bothered about him contacting my dead relatives - I have had enough signs of my own to know that he doesn't need to.

I know that the physical thing can grow - it is great when that happens, but if it doesn't then at least I have met someone interesting.

Thanks so much for your feedback - it has been so helpful!

Hi Mittens, he contacts the dead and does spiritual healing. It is not something I would dabble in really, although I am open-minded about it.

My initial worry was that he wasn't genuine, but I think he is.

intuition shintuition. If he is talking about other women and has just come out of an intense relationship it doesn't take any deep insight to know what is going on.

Frankly talking about other women for me is a huge turn off. If he is discussing other women with you I would ask him why.

48 FAB,

I think I'd rather date a "hot" than a medium or cold. : - ))

All the talk about other women is a red flag to me too.

Oh ok. Well, Fab go with your first sense. The first worry is always right. We (woman) want to over look things at the point we start liking a man and can't see logically at that point.

Well your very suspicous about him, so I wouldnt disclose that, I would keep on guard, but I wonder, do you think that is because your just not that attracted?
In any case when I think of dates I have been on and these men talk about all these other women they have dates, etc. I also became a number, that is not flattering. Its almost too much information too soon.

thebabe I also agree I think we all have the intuition, it comes and goes. But dont you think someone that contacts the dead has to have a huge level of clairvoyancy to get that deeep to know about relationships of people in how they react to each other, as they say, those only want to contact someone if there has been unrest. In any case I havemt been in that situation but it must be rather intense to even think to contact the deceased. This is so strange to even comprehend, being I have a relative that died a few days ago, and am going to the wake, this in my 3rd wake in less then 2 weeks!

Yes, it is a special gift to consistantly see dead people. I know people who are sensitive to other presences. Animals are very perceptive.

I personally do not perceive any visitations, but I always know when someone from the cemetary across the street comes in to play with the cat. I have 2 cats but only 1 of them is sensitive. He gets this special kind of crazy in his eyes. He fights and hisses at something I can't see. Sometimes he yowls(he rarely talks unless he has something to say)and licks himself, like someone is poking him. Then he tears around the apartment like a crazy thing.

I then say "Hey Ghost!! You're being too rowdy! Go haunt the cat next door!"

Then things settle down. Nothing scary. Make of it what you will but I think it's some little kid just wants to play with the kitty

I'm no medium or anything of that sort, but since I do alot of holistic healing work, I do sense "energies", especially if I'm in a home where someone has recently passed...physically it can come through as a "chill" through my body...sometimes I see people's auras, but not always..I don't pry into people's energy...I mainly act as a conduit when I'm doing healing work. I work on three levels, physical, mental/emotional, spiritual depending on what my client is coming to me for. Not new age "mambo jahambo"...just attuned to people's energy to assist them in healing. I have to be careful w/ my boundaries to not take on anything negative or otherwise that they may be carrying...I have to "clear" myself on a regular basis.

I have a practice in which I employ Hypnotherapy,REIKI, massage, reflexology, IET, EFT, and earcandling. In the physical modalities,I employ dowsing and muscle testing as an assessment tool to find areas of resistance (as when I conduct a hypnosis session, I do an extensive intake to customize the session to support the individual's needs and insure a successful resolution). Can't tell you how many people want the ole' past life regression session! I do rely on the assistance of people's spiritual support systems...like I said, I'm just a conduit...people's healing comes f/ within. I'm just there to assist. I have some background in nutrition and herbal healing properties and I'm seriously considering studying acupunture.

I started out on the traditional Psychology track, but didn't like how the treatment modality was set up...seemed like people were staying stuck and "in therapy" f/ way too long...that being said, there's much merit in the mental health industry f/ people w/ biologically based mental illness. After all, the brain is an organic and suseptible to illness like any other organ of the body...and until our archaic society recognizes this as not being a matter of a "character flaw" or weakness, we're going to remain in the dark ages on this one.

BTW,

I do alot of hospice work and help people transition to "other side" via REIKI...even in Catholic hospitals...many nurses use REIKI to assist there patients also...

We're not all New Age Freaky People! I've just been blessed w/ gift of healing which I employ through different modalities...again, boundaries are important...I have to be careful to know when it's safe f/ me to involve my heart or keep safe distance.

(wow, what a freakin' ramble I just went on!)

there is so much more than just the physical universe. If we are only advanced animals then life doesn't really matter, we are just passing through, then gone.

But if we are somethng more, then the laws of karma (or whatever you call it) do apply. If we are spiritual beings, then the body is just a shell. Then life does have value and we can develop our potential to much more than we have been led to believe

Anyway, SMERK your work sounds very rewarding.

Smerk your work does sound really interesting and really rewarding, it must be marvelous to help people that way. I agree doesnt it seem those that in therapy never get out or get better, I am extremely interested in spiritual healing. What attracted me to this site was just from seeing the Goddess posts.
I get premonitions, I always had it, but lightly, I just never know when its going to hit. Mostly I get it in dreams of things that are going to happen and they come true-one of the biggest was my sibling constantly walking in my dream with another man, later was found out there was an affair for 10 years-I kept asking her why do I keep having this dream? After that I started getting into tarot cards, just for myself. I have a friend that really sees stuff it comes to her in pangs, when she and I get together, it can get really interesting, its like WOW WHAT WAS THAT..and things come true, its so neat sometimes. Most of the time I really dont want to know whats to happen but when I get a sixth sense of things, it always is beneficial. Lastly was my approaching my boss asking if she was firing me. She had said to my other co-worker blaming her that she told me. She didnt-so yes sometimes it can be hard bc your judged by people being nuts. I also try to lift my thoughts of negativity from others away. Not easy all the time..

You can sense the past and those that live there. each time I visit cape may, nj i go to this same house, I really feel the presence of people that lived there.

Unfortuately, do to the economy, I haven't been able to maintain a full time practice. I have a corporate day job. I mostly practice nights/weekends.

My favorite most rewarding experience by far is helping people transition...I've had the assurance time and time again that what's on the otherside is unimaginably beautiful and peaceful! It's eliminated my fear of death (and works if/when I apply it to my own fear of the unknown when I getted jammed up in that!).

I do most of my REIKI work on a sharing/volunteer basis. I charge f/ the other modalities. I always incorporate REIKI into my sessions, however. It's like using jumper cables!

SMERK what is REIKI?

Princess--The only one who really ever feels anything is the cat, and even then, only the male. The female just thinks he is a big dufus. In a house I used to live, he was never happy there. He was always uncharacteristically nervous and cranky. I was living with a flesh and blood human male idiot that could have contributed to that but this was something else. The owner of the house said that his dead mother who had lived there for 40 years was still there. She didn't like cats. I never saw her, but I think the cat did. I only lived there for about 6 months

Probably this happens in a lot of households, where the pet just goes inexplicably nuts. My cats are my kids so I speak their language. I know what MEOOWW means "Quit it!!" and it is directed at something I can't see.

It is hard to communicate when your language has only one word

wow that is something thebabe, I also think animals sense when 'we' their mommies are not happy. I know a few times when the guy was here and we had a big fight Kitty is extremely nervous and its like as soon as he leaves on those days, the cats purring away he has a look that says, "thank god he left.."
